THE GAME GUIDE

Word Hunt

Find familiar words at your own pace, or try a timed Word Hunt challenge. Free graduated hints and missed-word paths help you learn.

How to Play

Choose Relaxed for untimed discovery or a 90-, 120- or 180-second challenge. Select neighboring tiles, drag a path, or type a word.

Finish & review ends a round. Choose a missed word to highlight its numbered tile path. New round replaces the current board. Refresh restores your discoveries and pauses an unfinished timer.

Rules

Words have at least three letters. Horizontal, vertical and diagonal neighbors are allowed, but no tile can repeat in a word. Qu counts as two letters.

A curated English dictionary accepts listed spelling variants and inflections; it is not exhaustive. Boards are checked for approachable words, with validated fallback boards.

Hints progress from a starting letter to two tiles and then a full path. There is no time penalty. Assisted and solo bests are separate, as are grid size and round length.

Length scores are 10, 20, 35, 55 or 80 points for 3–4, 5, 6, 7 or 8+ letters. Timed discoveries within 6.5 seconds build combos up to ×3. Relaxed play has no speed bonus.

Strategy & Tips

Scan for common endings and connected vowel-consonant patterns. Several short words found quickly can build a useful combo.

Look for longer words once you know the board. Review the missed words at the end to learn patterns for your next round.

Example path: if neighboring tiles read C, A, T, select C first, A second and T third to make CAT. For a word such as TENT you need two different T tiles: you cannot return to the starting T. A Qu tile followed by adjacent I and T tiles makes QUIT with three tiles but four letters. These are examples of paths, not words guaranteed on every board.

About This Game

Word Hunt offers untimed discovery and optional timed challenges using a curated English word list. Not every English word is included. Progress stays in this browser; reviewing missed words shows how their letters connect. Best scores are separated by mode and whether hints were used.
