THE GAME GUIDE

Pickle

Keep your final card low across seven rounds of Pickle. Play against computer opponents in a game for two to five players.

How to Play

Choose the player count and start. Hands shrink from seven cards in the first round to one card in the seventh. Select cards to exchange before trick play begins.

Play an equal or higher card than the current lead when possible; otherwise play your lowest card. The trick winner leads next.

Rules

The first player sets the maximum exchange count for the remaining players. Suits do not determine rank: ace is low, and 7 is highest, above king.

When everyone has one card left, those cards are revealed. Every player tied for the highest card keeps it as penalty points. A 7 is worth 14; ace is worth 1, jack 11, queen 12, and king 13. Lowest total after seven rounds wins.

Strategy & Tips

Save a low card for the final reveal and look for chances to shed high cards earlier. A 7 wins over a king but is dangerous to retain.

Plan exchanges around your whole hand. Short later rounds leave fewer opportunities to get rid of a dangerous card.

About This Game

Pickle turns familiar trick-taking instincts around: winning a trick is only useful if it helps you avoid a high final card. The shrinking hands make each round feel different.
